Vicarstown and Grand Canal, County Laois

Vicarstown Co Laois photographed from the air as we flew by showing the Grand Canal with boats tied up at the quay wall on a summers afternoon. Once a centre for trade the town is now more associated with tourism with picturesque walks. The Grattan family had close ties to the area as demonstrated by Grattan School, Grattan Lodge and Grattan Aqueduct named in honour of the famous Irish statesman of the 1700's.
