Aerial photo of Inniscarra Dam with the river Lee in full flood. As the water level behind the dam had nearly reached capacity, the ESB had no choice but to release water which in turn flooded Cork City. The rate of flow behind the dam had increased to 800 tonnes of water per second due to 4 inches of rain falling in a couple of hours.
