Viaduct rail bridge over
Boyne at Drogheda, Co Louth

Well finally I got an opportunity earlier in the summer to capture an aerial
photo of the railway bridge in Drogheda Co Louth which gives an idea of
the view my grand uncle saw as he made his final approach and then flew
under the span back in the mid 1920's.

Viaduct bridge Drogheda Co Louth

The bridge is still in use today as the it's mainline crossing point over the
Boyne, connecting Dublin with Belfast.
My uncle would have seen the old wrought ironwork spans. What we see
today has a taller, curved centre section for added strength, installed in
the 1930's when all the metalwork was upgraded to steel.
